WOMEN from across Zimbabwe’s mining sector will be celebrated at the Women in Mining Service Excellence Awards on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Monomotapa Hotel in Harare.

The event, themed “Give to Gain,” honours geologists, engineers, metallurgists, artisans, and support staff for their vital roles in mining and community development.

“These awards are not about performance. They focus on appreciation and recognition. They are meant to celebrate, not compete; they are complimentary,” explained Chiedza Chipangura, the founder of Women Empowerment in Mining Zimbabwe (WEMZ).

Deputy Mines Minister Fred Moyo will be the guest of honor at the red-carpet event, where industry leaders, companies, and community representatives will come together.

According to the organisers, the honourees include women who are spearheading sustainable mining initiatives, promoting environmental stewardship, and mentoring young girls to explore careers in mining.

Chipangura encouraged mining companies to support their employees’ participation, saying that they too would be recognised for promoting gender-sensitive practices.

“Recognising and rewarding hard work can enhance motivation, productivity, and the overall success of any mining project,” she said.

Since their inception in 2023, the awards have significantly raised the profile of women in mining. The organisers believe the event inspires more young women to consider careers in geology and engineering.

Their long-term vision, they add, is to create a platform that not only encourages more women to enter the sector but also ensures their contributions are acknowledged alongside those of their male counterparts.
