Government is satisfied with the level of compliance by mining companies on beneficiation, Mines and Mining Development Minister Dr Eng Polite Kambamura has said.

Speaking after a tour of exhibition stands at Mine Entra today, the Minister said the commitment shown by iron and steel giants, Dinson Iron and Steel Company and Steel Makers, who were exhibiting beneficiated steel, was a clear indication that industry was aligning with policy.

“We are satisfied with the level of compliance that we are seeing from our mining companies on beneficiation,” Minister Kambamura said.
“The commitment that has been exhibited here today by the iron and steel giants, Dinson and Steel Makers, who are exhibiting beneficiated steel, shows that they understand the direction that government is taking.”

He said that beneficiation remains central to government’s strategy to retain more value from Zimbabwe’s mineral resources and create jobs locally.

“Value addition is no longer negotiable. We want to see our minerals being processed here, creating employment and contributing to the growth of the economy,” he said.

Minister Kambamura said government will continue to enforce compliance orders requiring mining companies to process minerals locally before export.

Industry players at Mine Entra showcased various beneficiated products, with Dinson Iron and Steel Company and Steel Makers drawing attention for their steel products made from locally processed raw materials.

Dr Eng Kambamura said government will continue to monitor progress and provide support where necessary to ensure that beneficiation targets are met across all mineral sectors.
