In an industry dominated by steel, dust and explosives, one Zimbabwean drilling and blasting contractor is adding a splash of pink to the pit.
T&A Drilling & Blasting has unveiled its Pink October campaign under the banner “Drill for a Cause, Blast for a Cure” — painting its fleet of crawler drill rigs in striking pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The campaign, which has already gained traction on social media, combines industry education with community health advocacy. The company’s flagship rigs, usually seen in signature orange and black, have been wrapped in magenta and decorated with pink ribbons — a visual reminder on mine sites that health and safety extends beyond the workplace.
> “We drill every day to break ground. This October, we are drilling to break the silence around breast cancer,” the company said in its campaign statement.
To amplify the message, T&A Drilling & Blasting has launched an interactive social media challenge encouraging Zimbabweans to participate and learn.
Followers are asked to LIKE the T&A Drilling & Blasting Facebook page, TAG five friends, SHARE the post and COMMENT with the correct answer to a mining-themed question:
QUESTION: In mining, what do we call the hole we drill to load explosives?
A) Borehole B) Blast Hole / Shot Hole C) Water Hole*
The correct answer is B) Blast Hole / Shot Hole — the precisely drilled cavity where explosives are charged before a controlled blast. It is a fundamental part of drilling and blasting operations in quarries, open-pit mines and construction projects across Zimbabwe.
By linking a technical question to a public health cause, the company is using its platform to engage both industry professionals and the general public.
The initiative comes as Zimbabwe joins the global Pink October movement, with corporates using October to promote early detection, screening and support for those affected by breast cancer.
For TA Drilling & Blasting, known for its slogan “It’s a Blast!”, the message this month is different — that awareness, like a well-planned blast, can have a powerful and lasting impact.
The company is encouraging clients, partners and mining communities to wear pink, get screened and share the campaign using the hashtag #PINKOCTOBER.
