Zimbabwe’s junior mining movement has a new face at the top.
The Association of Junior Mining Professionals of Zimbabwe (AJMPZ) has elected Tanaka Kashambe as its new President, a move the association says injects fresh energy into its mission to champion young professionals in the country’s most strategic industry.
The election was announced in a statement by Secretary General Hazel Karoro.
According to AJMPZ, Kashambe’s elevation comes at a defining moment, as the association intensifies its drive to open up the mining sector for youth through skills development, mentorship, industry linkages and meaningful participation in national mineral development.
He will serve in accordance with the AJMPZ constitution, working hand-in-hand with the Chairman, Secretary General, executive committee and the wider membership to deliver on the association’s mandate.
In his acceptance remarks, Kashambe struck a unifying tone, thanking members for their trust and laying out a vision anchored on collective leadership.
“I am honoured to have been elected President of the Association of Junior Mining Professionals of Zimbabwe, and I thank our members for the confidence they have placed in me,” said Kashambe.
“I look forward to working closely with the Chairman, Secretary General, executive committee and the entire membership to strengthen our association and advance the interests of junior mining professionals.”
Kashambe said the future of AJMPZ will hinge on how well it lives its own values.
“I believe that our progress will depend on collective effort, transparency, inclusivity and adherence to our constitution,” he said.
“I encourage all members to remain actively involved as we build an association that creates meaningful opportunities for young professionals and contributes to the sustainable development of Zimbabwe’s mining industry.”
The association remains committed to building a strong, professional network that equips young miners to lead, innovate and contribute to Zimbabwe’s mining future.
Congratulating the new President, Secretary General Hazel Karoro called for unity and support from the membership.
“AJMPZ congratulates Kashambe on his election and calls upon its members to support the association’s leadership in pursuing its mandate and strengthening the role of junior mining professionals in the country’s mineral development,” said Karoro.
Kashambe takes over at a time when youth participation, formalization and professionalization are at the heart of Zimbabwe’s mining discourse — and expectations are high that AJMPZ will play a louder, bolder role.
