The Zimbabwe Institute of Rock Engineering has opened submissions for technical papers ahead of its 2026 Annual General Meeting and Symposium, which will focus on technology-driven solutions to fall of ground incidents in mines.

In a statement, ZINIRE said abstracts should be submitted by 30 September 2026.

The AGM and Symposium will be held on *Friday, 23 October 2026* at the *Victoria Falls Safari Lodge* in Victoria Falls under the theme _“Leveraging Technology for Next Generation Fall of Ground Management.”_

The institute said the event will target professionals across the mining sector.

“Anyone in the mining industry will benefit,” ZINIRE stated.

Expected attendees include General Managers, Rock Engineers, Rock Mechanics Technicians, Strata Control Officers, Mine Managers, MRM Managers, Geologists, Mine Surveyors, Mining Engineers, Mine Planners, Mining Inspectorate, SHEQ Practitioners, Civil Engineers and Students.

ZINIRE has also scheduled pre- and post-event activities.

ZINIRE noted that “Presentations only from Silver upwards.”

The symposium comes at a time when Zimbabwe’s mining sector is placing increased emphasis on safety and technology, with fall of ground remaining one of the leading causes of accidents in underground operations.
