PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has reassigned five Permanent Secretaries in a mini reshuffle, effective May 1.
Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Martin Rushwaya, announced the changes in Harare, saying they were made under Section 205(1) of the Constitution.
Dr. Thomas Utete Wushe, formerly Permanent Secretary for Industry and Commerce, will now lead the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development. He replaces Pfungwa Kunaka, who moves to Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.
“Government is streamlining its administrative functions to enhance efficiency in the public sector,” Rushwaya said in the statement.
Other appointments include Simon Masanga to Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Ambassador Tadeous Chifamba to Industry and Commerce, and Professor Obert Jiri to Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development.
Dr. Wushe holds a doctorate from Nottingham Business School and an MBA from the University of Zimbabwe. He has previously worked with Deloitte, Crown Agents, and Mobil Oil, and has chaired Amalgamated Regional Trading Holdings since 2015.
The reshuffle comes as Zimbabwe seeks to strengthen its mining sector and improve delivery of public services.
