The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development has joined President Emmerson Mnangagwa and SADC in calling for the immediate and unconditional removal of illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe, saying the sanctions are stifling mining investment and undermining beneficiation.
The Ministry said, in a statement, sanctions have severely damaged the economy.
“These sanctions severely damage Zimbabwe’s economy by stifling mining investment, restricting access to critical equipment and international finance, and undermining mineral beneficiation and value addition — ultimately affecting the livelihoods of ordinary Zimbabweans.”
Despite the challenges, the Ministry said it remains committed to creating a conducive mining environment.
“Despite these challenges, the Ministry remains resolute in promoting a transparent, compliant, and investor-friendly mining environment, ensuring mineral wealth benefits all Zimbabweans in line with Vision 2030.”
The Ministry said development of mineral resources is a sovereign right.
“The development of Zimbabwe’s mineral resources is a sovereign right. No external coercive measure will deter the Ministry from pursuing sustainable growth, local beneficiation, and equitable benefit-sharing.”
The Ministry called on the international community to reject politicisation of economic tools.
“The Ministry calls upon the international community and global investors to reject the politicisation of economic tools and support Zimbabwe’s right to self-determination through constructive partnerships.”
It added that it remains open to genuine partnerships.
“The Ministry remains open to dialogue and cooperation with all genuine partners who respect Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.”
“Together, we shall build a prosperous, resilient, and inclusive mining economy.”
