ZIMBABWE’S government has pledged to work closely with the Association of Mine Surveyors following the re-election of Stewart Gumbie as its president.

Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minister Fred Moyo congratulated Gumbie in a message praising his leadership and commitment to the profession.

“Congratulations to Gumbie on your re-election as President of our Surveyors Association,” Moyo said. “You deserve the recognition due to your knowledge base and hard work.”

Moyo said the ministry looks forward to working with Gumbie and his colleagues at GeoSurvey and the Geospatial Space Agency to advance national projects, including the planned National Geoscience Entity.

“The Ministry looks forward to you and your colleagues at GeoSurvey and geospace agency pushing hard to bring to fruition the establishment of the National Geoscience Entity that will be the repository of mining and civil construction standards,” he said.

The entity is envisioned as a central repository for mining and civil construction standards.

Gumbie’s re-election is expected to bring continuity to the Association at a time when mining remains a key pillar of Zimbabwe’s economic growth strategy under Vision 2030.

The Association of Mine Surveyors sets professional standards for mine surveying and oversees compliance within the extractives industry.
