Blanket Mine FC have made history.
The Gwanda-based side have been crowned champions of the 2026 Central Region Soccer League, securing automatic promotion to the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League for the 2027 season.
It is a historic milestone for the club, which will now compete in the top flight of Zimbabwean football for the first time.
The championship win caps a remarkable season for Blanket Mine FC, whose consistency, determination and teamwork saw them outshine a competitive Central Region campaign.
Club officials said the achievement reflects months of hard work from the players, technical team, management and supporters.
“This is a proud moment for Blanket Mine and the entire Gwanda community,” the club said in a statement. “This success belongs to everyone who has stood with the team throughout the season.”
Blanket Mine, owned by Caledonia Mining Corporation which operates Blanket Mine in Gwanda, has invested heavily in community sports development. The promotion is expected to bring renewed excitement to Matabeleland South, which has had limited representation in the PSL in recent years.
The team will now begin preparations for life in the Premier League, where they will face some of the country’s biggest clubs in the 2027 season.
