border-left: 4px solid #1e6bb8; padding: 16px 20px; margin-bottom: 24px; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 0.95em; line-height: 1.6; color: #212223;\">\n<ul style=\"margin: 0; padding-left: 20px;\">\n<li>Zimbabwe School of Mines pushes partnerships to improve women\u2019s participation in mining.<\/li>\n<li>Institution reports rising female enrolment and training of over 600 women nationwide<\/li>\n<li>Calls for urgent action to address structural inequalities still limiting women in the sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"251\" data-end=\"414\">THE <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">ZIMBABWE School of Mines<\/span><\/span> says it is stepping up efforts to improve women\u2019s participation in the mining sector through training and partnerships.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"416\" data-end=\"560\">The school made the remarks during a public lecture held with the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Women\u2019s University in Africa<\/span><\/span> focusing on gender equality in mining.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"562\" data-end=\"676\">Sithembile Sibanda, finance manager at the school, said women must move beyond visibility to full participation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"678\" data-end=\"828\">\u201cWomen and girls must not only be seen and heard, but must also fully enjoy their rights, access justice, and experience real action,\u201d Sibanda said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"919\">She said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2025\/12\/29\/mukamura-charts-a-path-for-women-engineers-in-zims-mining-sector\/\">sector still reflects long-standing inequalities that limit women\u2019s<\/a> roles.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"921\" data-end=\"1034\">\u201cFor far too long, the extractive industry has been marked by structural inequalities and exclusion,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1191\">Globally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/02\/women-in-mining-awards-harare-2026\/\">women account for about 15% of the mining<\/a> workforce, highlighting persistent gender gaps in the industry.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1193\" data-end=\"1374\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2025\/12\/30\/planetgold-zimbabwe-says-mines-bill-misses-key-gaps-in-artisanal-mining-reform\/\">artisanal mining<\/a>, which supports millions of livelihoods, women often face barriers such as limited access to land, finance and equipment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1376\" data-end=\"1466\">Sibanda said change requires collective effort across institutions and industry players.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1468\" data-end=\"1607\">\u201cMeaningful progress in mining requires all of us to give something\u2026 and change systems that have historically excluded women,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1609\" data-end=\"1712\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/25\/zimbabwe-mining-advocate-urges-action-to-support-women-in-sector\/\">Zimbabwe School of Mines<\/a> said it has increased female enrolment to more than 35% in recent years.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1714\" data-end=\"1854\">The institution, established in 1926, trains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/02\/actionaid-zimbabwe-inclusive-mining-governance\/\">mining professionals for Zimbabwe<\/a> and the wider region.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1856\" data-end=\"2006\">It has also trained more than 600 women through short courses over the past decade, including programmes targeting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2025\/12\/19\/zimbabwe-moves-to-formalise-artisanal-mining-as-small-scale-miners-supply-68-of-gold\/\">artisanal and small-scale miners<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2008\" data-end=\"2118\">Outreach initiatives have reached communities in districts such as Bubi, Kadoma and Kwekwe, the school said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2120\" data-end=\"2235\">Experts say improving women\u2019s participation in mining can strengthen economic outcomes and community development.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2237\" data-end=\"2432\">Women make up a significant share of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/12\/miners-urge-changes-mining-bill\/\">artisanal mining<\/a> workforce globally, and their inclusion is seen as key to building more sustainable value chains.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2434\" data-end=\"2614\">Despite progress, challenges remain, including safety risks, limited access to capital and persistent discrimination in mining environments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zimbabwe School of Mines pushes partnerships to improve women\u2019s participation in mining.
