If you empower a woman in mining, you have empowered a community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lecture, hosted by the Zimbabwe School of Mines and the Women\u2019s University in Africa, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/09\/zimbabwe-engineers-world-engineering-day-2026\/\">marked International Women\u2019s Day<\/a> and focused on challenges facing women miners, including access to finance, licenses, and safety.<\/p>\n<p>Chipangura <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/25\/zimbabwe-mining-advocate-urges-action-to-support-women-in-sector\/\">urged women to avoid competition and instead support each other<\/a>. \u201cDo not compete with anyone, even amongst yourselves. Remember you are your own woman. We need to compliment each other,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Her organisation runs mentorship programmes, training workshops, and annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/02\/women-in-mining-awards-harare-2026\/\">awards that recognise women\u2019s achievements in mining<\/a>. The awards have been hailed as \u201ca vehicle for empowering female miners\u201d by industry observers.<\/p>\n<p>Women <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/14\/zim-mineral-export-ban-reactions\/\">miners in Zimbabwe<\/a> face barriers such as limited access to capital, difficulties in obtaining mining claims, and cultural bias in a male-dominated industry. \u201cWe are happy people, we celebrate each other,\u201d Chipangura said. \u201cMy joy comes from making another woman smile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Women Empowerment in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/02\/actionaid-zimbabwe-inclusive-mining-governance\/\">Mining Zimbabwe<\/a> says its goal is to build a network of women leaders across the mining value chain by 2030. The group also advocates for policy changes to improve safety and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Chipangura called on government, mining companies, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/03\/12\/boss-lee-kadoma-community-work\/\">communities to support<\/a> women\u2019s empowerment. \u201cBy doing so, we can create a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimining.co.zw\/index.php\/2025\/12\/29\/mukamura-charts-a-path-for-women-engineers-in-zims-mining-sector\/\">mining sector<\/a> that benefits all,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chiedza Chipangura spoke at the Hope-Fay Public Lecture Series on Women and Mining.
